STD's or STI's are one of the scariest realities a person can face. Often times, learning that you've contracted an STI can tear apart your life. They affect thousands each year and as a sexually active society we are all at risk of contracting one, no matter how careful we are.
As many of you already understand, your medical history is between you and your doctor. Doctor/Patient confidentiality is very important and having that compromised in any way is a serious offence and it should be taken seriously.
In May 2009, A woman filed a lawsuit against Nik Richie and The Dirty when post on the website stated that the woman was infected with the Herpes Virus and called her numerous hurtful names. Nik Richie also commented on the post, making snide remarks to fuel the comments. This woman did in fact, have herpes and filed a lawsuit against Nik Richie for defamation. She won. The judge ruled against Richie in October 2009, stating that the post was “not of legitimate public concern,” and that he had acted with malice.
If you have an STI, you have already suffered enough shame and embarrassment. If you have been posted on The Dirty about having an STI, you need to contact a.) A Lawyer and b.) The Clean. You've got a case. Don't let these people get away with hurting you. It's not legal. It's not right.
